It has been revealed that Shinya Kote and Fonchi, who played original members of the drama series, will appear in "TOKYO MER: The Running Emergency Room - CAPITAL CRISIS" (releasing August 21st), the third theatrical film in the popular series "TOKYO MER: The Running Emergency Room," starring actor Ryohei Suzuki.
"TOKYO MER ~The Mobile Emergency Room~" is a full-fledged medical drama depicting a professional emergency medical team called "TOKYO MER," newly established by order of the Tokyo Governor. The TV series aired on TBS's "Sunday Theater" slot (Sundays at 9 PM) in July 2021, and a special drama aired in 2023. Theatrical films were also released in 2023 and 2025 and proved popular.
Kote has been playing Jiro Fuyuki, an anesthesiologist who has supported Kitami (played by Suzuki) and the team as "deputy chief" since MER's inception, while Phong Chi plays Hoang Lan Minh, a nurse from Vietnam. Both will be appearing as members of "Hakata MER" in this production.
It was also announced that Atsushi Ito will be appearing in the drama. Ito previously appeared in the 2023 special drama "Sumidagawa Mission" as Tatsuya Aoto, a bureaucrat with a medical license. This time, he will be reappearing as the second doctor for "Sendai MER".
Kote confessed his feelings about the work, saying, "This is an irreplaceable work for me, and I feel truly honored to have met the character of Jiro Fuyuki. MER is fiction, and from the perspective of the harsh realities, it may seem like a pipe dream, but it is a work that gave me courage as an actor, showing that it is not wrong to talk about an ideal that lies beyond reality."
Fonchi said, "This film is on the same scale as always! I think you will be able to feel the feelings of each and every person who risks their life to receive and pass on the baton of saving lives. I hope you will go to the theater and imprint on your memory the passionate figures of these heroes who never stop taking a step forward for someone else today."
Ito also commented, "I made a guest appearance in the special drama 'Sumida River Mission,' and I am very honored to have been invited to appear in the movie this time. In the past, Aoto's bleeding wouldn't stop, his operation failed, and he was not able to do anything useful, causing a lot of trouble. So, will Aoto's operation go well this time or not...? Stay tuned!" His comments suggest that Aoto has grown as a character.
