It has been announced that the first-ever exhibition of original artwork by the late manga artist Yu-Gi-Oh! Takahashi, known for the popular manga "Yu-Gi-Oh!" (Shueisha), titled "Kazuki Takahashi Original Artwork Exhibition: YU-GI-OH! ART WORKS," will be held in Tokyo this winter. The exhibition commemorates the 30th anniversary of the start of the "Yu-Gi-Oh!!" serialization and will explore the origins of his work, including "Yu-Gi-Oh!", while displaying valuable original drawings, production materials from the conceptual stage, and rough illustrations of characters and monsters. Original exhibition goods will also be sold. A teaser visual featuring Yugi Mutou from "Yu-Gi-Oh! " has been released.
Following the announcement of the original artwork exhibition, Shunsuke Kazama , who voiced Yugi Muto in the TV anime " Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters," commented, "I am really looking forward to Mr. Takahashi's original artwork exhibition. In 'Yu-Gi-Oh!', Mr. Takahashi depicted a story where souls are revived across time and space. I believe that if we continue to love Mr. Takahashi's art and stories, his soul will be revived in this world again and again. I can't wait to touch his many works and touch his soul."
Kenjiro Tsuda, who plays Seto Kaiba, said, "I once saw Mr. Kazuki Takahashi signing autograph boards. Not only was he signing, but he was also drawing illustrations. It was like magic. In an instant, Yugi and Kaiba came to life with great energy. At the wrap party for the movie, where everyone had had a little to drink, he signed many autograph boards for the anime staff, using a marker that wasn't his usual pen. Even though it wasn't 100% of his work, seeing the real thing in person was incredibly powerful. As I was genuinely amazed beside him, Mr. Takahashi, being shy, became embarrassed. Duelists! You will now be able to see Mr. Takahashi's serious original drawings! Go and see them! Kazuki Takahashi is still alive and well!"
Takahashi made his debut in 1990 with "Tokio no Taka" under the name Kazumasa Takahashi, which was published in "Weekly Shonen Jump Summer Special 1990" (Shueisha). "Yu-Gi-Oh!& Wizards" that appeared in the series was commercialized as "Yu-Gi-Oh! Official Card Game Duel Monsters". From 2000, the TV anime "Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters", based on "Yu-Gi-Oh!", began airing. Production of sequel series continued even after the broadcast ended, and the eighth series, "Yu-Gi-Oh! Go Rush!!", aired until 2025.
In 2016, the theatrical film "Yu-Gi-Oh! THE DARK SIDE OF DIMENSIONS," for which Takahashi himself served as original creator, screenwriter, character designer, and executive producer, was released. In 2013, a special one-shot manga "DRUMP" was published in issue 49 of "Weekly Shonen Jump," and a short-term serialized work "THE COMIQ" was published in issues 46-52 of "Weekly Shonen Jump" in 2018.
