The trailer and new stills for "Tom and Jerry: The Magic Compass That Travels Through Time" (distributed by Clockworks, opening May 29th), the latest animated film in the popular "Tom and Jerry" series, were released on April 16th.
"Tom and Jerry" is a slapstick comedy short animated series featuring the world's most famous cat, Tom, and mouse, Jerry, as they engage in all sorts of chases in each episode. It celebrated its 85th anniversary in 2025.
In the latest movie, Tom and Jerry are playing their usual game of chase in a museum when they accidentally activate an ancient artifact on display, the "Star Compass," and are transported through time in a dazzling light. They arrive in the "Golden City," a different world thousands of years in the past, inhabited by a phoenix sage and unique guardian beasts. There, they find themselves in danger from the evil Rat King, who seeks to conquer the world with the power of the compass. In order to return to their own time, Tom and Jerry call a temporary truce, and the strongest (?) duo embarks on a grand adventure in the face of an unprecedented crisis...and that's the story.
The newly released trailer shows Tom and Jerry unexpectedly time-traveling while in the middle of a chase.
At a New York museum at night, where the mystical "Traveling Compass Exhibition" is being held, Jerry, who has come to see the exhibits, is spotted by Tom, who is working part-time as a security guard, and a chaotic chase ensues in the quiet museum. In the midst of their frantic struggle, they enter the room where the exhibition's main attraction, the ancient treasure "Star Compass," is located. The compass, which had been stopped, suddenly starts working, and Tom and Jerry are sucked into a warp room that magically appears, with no way to resist.
When Tom lands in the "Golden City," an alternate world thousands of years in the past, he finds himself revered and celebrated by the inhabitants as the legendary "Cat God." While the mischievous Tom proudly shows off his moonwalk and dance moves, Jerry looks utterly bewildered.
However, this peace is short-lived, as the situation changes drastically with the arrival of Rat King (Kazuya Nakai), an evil genius inventor who seeks the treasured compass. The Phoenix Immortal (Takuya Sato), the leader who protects the Golden City, and his partner, Phoenix Feeny (Yohei Tadano), along with Jade (Yurika Kubo), a Peking Opera actress who instantly captivates Tom with her overwhelming glamour and dignified presence, and the Phoenix Immortal's disciples, the Guardian Beast Team: the honest Xander (Hiroki Yasumoto), the pacifist Sonny (Kohei Amasaki), and the lightning-fast Tenten (Yukihiro Nozuyama), all join forces. Together with their friends from the Golden City, a grand adventure begins to protect the "Star Compass" from Rat King.
In their original world, Tom and Jerry are always fighting, and their antics continue even after time-traveling to another world. However, with advice from friends they meet in the Golden City, the two decide to call a temporary truce. Can this invincible duo (?) protect the Golden City from the clutches of the Rat King and safely return to their own world? This grand adventure, depicted on the largest scale in the series' history, heads towards a happy ending that is uniquely Tom and Jerry, where "the more they fight, the more they save the world."
The newly released stills showcase Tom and Jerry, beloved around the world, brought to life in their first-ever full 3DCG. The images capture captivating scenes such as their chase through the museum and the Golden City, Jerry's adorable grin as he anticipates victory, Tom's eyes turning into hearts as he is captivated, and the moment Tom and Jerry fall together with a compass in hand. Anticipation is building for the thrilling and exciting story that will unfold on the big screen.
