Actors Mei Hata and Mirai Shida recently appeared at a press conference in Tokyo for the Sunday 10pm drama "Error," which starts on April 12th (ABC TV/TV Asahi network, Sundays at 10:15 PM). Both actresses have careers spanning over 20 years since their days as child actors, and this is their first time co-starring in a drama, where they share their impressions of each other.
Although they have appeared together on radio shows in the past, this is their first time working together on a drama. Hata smiled and said, "Shida-san is incredibly focused. But she's also very friendly and when she talks about her favorite group, FRUITS ZIPPER, her excitement level goes through the roof, and it's so cute!" Shida thanked her, saying, "Mei-chan is such a good listener that it makes me want to talk (laughs). She treats everyone equally, so it's fun to be on set."
Shida also commented, "Mei-chan is always so composed on set, so I feel reassured that everything will be alright if I just follow her today." Hata blushed and said, "That's not true!", adding, "Shida-san has such a big presence, so I'm the one who's always trying to follow in the direction she's going."
Hata said that they grew closer through this project, and revealed, "We exchanged contact information, sent each other photos, and I recommended some beauty salons to him... and then, by chance, we both ended up going at the same time (to the salon) and met (laughs). The receptionist said to me, 'I'm going to watch the drama!' and it ended up sounding like a promotional announcement (laughs)."
The drama is a human suspense story about Yume Nakata (Hata), who caused the death of a certain woman, and Mio Osako (Shida), the only daughter of the deceased woman, who develop a friendship without knowing the truth, and are eventually torn between guilt and friendship. The original script was written by Sakiko Yashiro and selected for the "WDR Project," a script development team established by NHK.
Hata said, "I had the chance to see the first episode ahead of time, and it turned out to be a far more wonderful work than I had imagined. This is my first time starring in a prime-time drama, and I'm really glad it's this project. I think I'll be able to show a new side of myself. There may be parts that are hard to understand, and it's a work that will evoke a variety of emotions, but I hope you will enjoy it."
Shida said, "All I want is to live a little bit happier, but that's not possible... It's a story about characters who are constantly wavering. Please look forward to it."
Popular group "WEST." members Ryusei Fujii, Ikue Sakakibara, Yoshinori Okada, and Chiaki Kuriyama also appeared at the press conference.
