It has been announced that Takumi Saitoh, Katsuya, Kei Tanaka, Wataru Ichinose, Kento Shibuya, Kai Shishido, Kosei Yuki, Kei Tanaka, Wataru Ichinose , and Ayaka Kento Yamazaki will be joining the cast of "Kingdom: The Soulful Battle," the fifth film in the "Kingdom" series starring Kento Yamazaki (directed by Ryoki Miyama Sato, opening July 17th).
The cast announced this time consists of members of the "Coalition Army" aiming to overthrow Qin. Saito will play Shunshin-kun, the prime minister and commander-in-chief of the great state of Chu; Katsuya will play Kanmei, the supreme commander known as the "Giant of Chu"; Miyoshi will play Karin, the female general of Chu who is called a "genius of war"; Ichinose will play Linbu-kun, the general of Chu who boasts overwhelming military power; Miyama will play Hakurei, one of the "Ten Archers of China" and a "thousand-man commander" of Chu; and Yuki will play Kouyoku, a "thousand-man commander" of Chu who is expected to have a bright future.
Additionally, Nakamura will play Keisha, a vice-general who earns the trust of Zhao's commander-in-chief, Li Mu (played by Shun Oguri); Tanaka will play Wu Fengming, a young great general and commander-in-chief of Wei; Shibuya will play Cheng Hui, the commander-in-chief of Han who wages unconventional battles with a certain weapon; and Shishido will play Ordo, the commander-in-chief of Yan who rules over the mountain tribes of the north.
The film "Kingdom" is based on the historical manga by Yasuhisa Hara (Shueisha), set in the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods of ancient China. It depicts the exploits of Shin, who aims to become a great general, and Ei Sei, who would later become the First Emperor of Qin. Kento Yamazaki plays Shin, and Ryo Yoshizawa plays Ei Sei. The series has been released in 2019 ("Kingdom"), 2022 ("Kingdom 2: To the Faraway Land"), 2023 ("Kingdom: Flame of Destiny"), and 2024 ("Kingdom: The Return of the Great General"). The series has attracted approximately 17.34 million viewers and grossed over 24.5 billion yen at the box office.
This film adapts the "Coalition Army" arc, one of the most popular episodes from the original manga, into live-action. It depicts the great battle in which the states of Chu, Zhao, Wei, Han, Yan, and Qi join forces to overthrow Qin, with the fate of the Qin state hanging in the balance.
