The final episode of the 49th installment of the Super Sentai series, "Number One Sentai Gojuger" (TV Asahi, Sunday 9:30 AM), was broadcast on February 8th, and caused a stir when a popular voice actor "engaged" (transformed) into the Red Ranger from the first installment of the series, "Himitsu Sentai Goranger" (1975-1977).
"Number One Sentai Gojuger" is a work commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Super Sentai series. Heroes based on beasts such as animals and dinosaurs fight against the Bridan Corps, which reigns over the mysterious world of No One World, rivals with the power of previous Reds, and even within the Gojuger clan, in search of the Centairing, a ring that is said to grant any wish if all are collected.
In the final episode, Gojuu Wolf/Ho (played by Fuyuno Shino), who has become number one in the battle for the rings, is confronted by his rival Fire Candle (played by Sanbongi Daisuke). During his fierce battle with Fire Candle, Ho recalls the days he spent with the Gojugers and finds his own wish, which he had been unable to find.
In the battle against Fire Candle, people with close ties to the Gojugers came to their aid, including Toei producer Kazu Sekimoto, played by voice actor Tomokazu Seki. Kazu Sekimoto "engaged" with the Akaranger, calling it his "50th year wish."
Seki, who has appeared as a voice actor in a total of six works in the Super Sentai series, has been making a number of comments on social media regarding his transformation, such as "A spectacular production befitting the final episode (especially Seki who looks so enthusiastic)", "I thought Seki Tomokazu would transform, but his long-awaited transformation in the final episode was too obvious", "Seki's engagement as Red Ranger is amazing!", "Seki is a huge special effects fan so he must have been happy to be able to transform into Red Ranger at the end", and "Seki Tomokazu has been doing voice acting up until now, but it's very moving that he was finally able to transform into Red Ranger himself at this milestone of 50 years."
