The final episode of Toei's special effects "Super Sentai Series," the 49th installment, "Number One Sentai Gojuger" (TV Asahi, Sunday 9:30 AM), aired on February 8th. This work marks the end of the Super Sentai series, which has been broadcast on television for half a century since "Himitsu Sentai Goranger" in 1975. The series has caused a huge reaction on social media, with related words such as "Gojuger" and "Super Sentai" trending one after another.
"Number One Sentai Gojuger" is a work commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Super Sentai series. Heroes based on beasts such as animals and dinosaurs fight against the Bridan Corps, which reigns over the mysterious world of No One World, rivals with the power of previous Reds, and even within the Gojuger clan, in search of the Centairing, a ring that is said to grant any wish if all are collected.
In the final episode, Gojuu Wolf/Ho (played by Fuyuno Shino), who has become number one in the battle for the rings, is confronted by his rival Fire Candle (played by Sanbongi Daisuke). During his fierce battle with Fire Candle, Ho recalls the days he spent with the Gojuugers and finally finds his own wish...and that's how it ends.
After the final episode aired, no special message was shown regarding the hiatus of Super Sentai, and only a caption was displayed announcing "Super Space Sheriff Gavan Infinity," the first installment of the new special effects series "PROJECT RED," which will begin airing on the 15th: "Thank you for your support over the past year! Next week, Space Sheriff Gavan Infinity will begin airing!"
X's official Super Sentai account (@sentai_official) posted an image of the backs of past warriors with the message, "With respect to all the colorful warriors who continued to fight and everyone who has continued to run alongside us, and to all the colors [individuality] of each and every one of them," along with the caption, "See you again."
On social media, comments included, "It didn't feel like the final episode of Super Sentai in a weird way, it ended simply with the usual Gojuger," "It was a great final episode, thank you Gojuger, thank you Super Sentai!!," "I felt like this ending sent the message that 'Super Sentai can start over,'" "Thank you so much. We'll be waiting," and "Thank you for your hard work over the past 50 years!!"
According to TV Asahi, the Super Sentai series is on "temporary hiatus" and the television broadcast has "come to an end."
