"Fuurai Gumo" is a period drama based on the manga of the same name by George Akiyama. The setting is Shinagawa-shuku at the end of the Edo period. Fuurai Gumo is an eccentric man who wears a woman's kimono and has his hair tied in front of his forehead. While living his days freely with an elusive and fluffy appearance, he also gently changes people's destinies without them realizing it. This is a hymn to humanity filled with laughter and tears.
In the fifth episode, Furakumo's son, Shinnosuke (Kawahara Eito), is influenced by his teacher, Mr. Aota, at his cram school, and becomes concerned about the future of the country, leading to the formation of the Ipponmatsu Youth Corps.
However, not knowing what to do, he follows Furakumo's advice and devotes himself to cleaning up the town. When Aota finds out about this, he is disappointed that Furakumo has such low ambition and lashes out at him. However, he falls in love at first sight with O-Kiyaku, a maid at the teahouse where the two of them go, and Aota approaches her under the pretext of teaching her how to read and write.
