The character and mechanical designs for " Mobile Police Patlabor Mobile Police Patlabor EZY," a new anime adaptation of the popular "Mobile Police Patlabor" series, have been revealed. The new work is set in Japan in the 2030s, a time of increasing automation driven by AI technology. Labors, once cutting-edge technology, have become an integral part of social infrastructure. Standalone labors piloted by humans are increasingly being replaced by autonomous robots, making them obsolete. Even as times change, the Special Vehicle Section 2's job remains the same: to protect people and the city. The Second Platoon, along with the AV-98 Plus Ingram, a tuned-up version of the old Type 98 AV Ingram, will use their wisdom and courage to confront new technological crimes.
Towa Kuga, the pilot of Ingram Unit 1, is 22 years old and filled with a sense of justice and fighting spirit. He is known for his unflinching spirit and unwavering determination even in close combat. He enjoys crisis situations and uses his own experience as a basis for making decisions. He is so bold that he sometimes appears to be going out of control, and although he is skilled at piloting, he is not good at shooting. Before being assigned to the Second Platoon, he was a police officer in the Public Safety Division. His hobby is watching period dramas. He has one older brother who is a police bureaucrat. He is voiced by Sumire Uesaka.
Amatori Kippei is 23 years old and in charge of commanding Ingram Unit 1. He is an assistant to Kuga Towa, who tends to do reckless things, but he supports her at her mercy. He has a wide range of life hacks and hates anything that doesn't make sense. After deciding between becoming a Self-Defense Force or a police officer, he decided to become a police officer. He is such a big fan of machines that he originally wanted to become a pilot, and he has a figurine of the original Type 98 Ingram "ALPHONSE" displayed on his desk. He is calm and positive, a romantic who loves horoscopes. He is so trusting of people that he is careless about details. Kikunosuke Toya is the voice actor.
The AV-98 Plus Ingram (Ingram Plus) is an improved version of the Type 98 AV Ingram, which was rolled out in 1998, and is operated by the Special Vehicles Section 2. In addition to performance improvements through tuning of the entire aircraft, basic performance has been greatly improved through updates to the control system software. However, because it has been in active service for approximately 40 years, undergoing repeated improvements and re-maintenance, it is sometimes mocked by police officers at the police box as "junk." The pilot's headgear uses an AR (augmented reality) HUD (head-up display) that projects information directly into the field of vision, allowing the pilot to check necessary information without looking away.
"Mobile Police Patlabor EZY" will consist of eight episodes in three chapters, with episodes 1 to 6 being self-contained anthologies, while episodes 7 and 8 will be a continuous story. Chapter 1 will be released in theaters on May 15th, Chapter 2 on August 14th, and Chapter 3 in March 2027.
The film will be directed by Yutaka Izubuchi, a member of the legendary creative group "HEADGEAR" that worked on "Mobile Police Patlabor" and who was in charge of mechanical design, with Kazunori Ito, also from "HEADGEAR," in charge of the script and series composition, and the animation will be produced by JCSTAFF.
