A live-action film adaptation of "Tangled" (directed by Nathan Greno and Byron Howard, 2010), Disney's 50th animated feature film, has been announced, and fresh new actors to play Rapunzel and Flynn Rider have been announced.
The lead role of Rapunzel will be played by Australian actress Teagan Croft, who has made a strong impression in the DC drama series "Titans" and is gaining attention in Hollywood. Her co-star Flynn Rider will be Milo Manheim, who is popular for his role in the Disney Channel teen musical series "Zombies."
The film will be directed by Michael Gracey, director of "The Greatest Showman" (2017) and "BETTER MAN" (2025). The release date, additional cast, and music information will be announced in the future.
Disney Animation's "Tangled" is the 50th feature-length animated film released by Disney since "Snow White" in 1937, and is a modern adaptation of the Grimm fairy tale "Rapunzel," also known as "The Princess with the Long Hair."
This fantasy musical follows Rapunzel, a young girl with magical long hair who has been locked up in a tower for many years, as she escapes and ventures out into the world with Flynn Rider, a thief she meets by chance. Released in the US in 2010 (and in Japan in 2011), it was Disney's first fully CGI princess film and became a huge hit, grossing over 2.5 billion yen in Japan and over 590 million dollars worldwide (approximately 92.6 billion yen, calculated at 157 yen to the dollar).
The song "I See the Light" sung by Rapunzel and Flynn Rider in the film was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song and is remembered as a Disney classic. In the Japanese dubbed version, Shoko Nakagawa voiced Rapunzel.
