It has been announced that actor and singer Oizumi Yo will be performing the ending theme "Kagerou" for the TV anime "Hikuidori Boro Tobi Gumi," which is based on the popular novel by Naoki Prize-winning author Imamura Shogo. This will be Oizumi's first anime tie-up. "Kagerou" is a new song by Oizumi, with lyrics by him and Gekkou Tetsuya, and music by Tamaki Koji. Oizumi also wrote the lyrics and Tamaki composed the music for the song "Ano Sora ni Tatsuto no Youni," released in 2023, so this marks the pairing once again. The song will be released digitally on January 25th.
Oizumi commented, "This time, since the story is about firefighters in the Edo period, I felt that the motif of 'flame' would link to the anime, so I chose the title 'Kagerou'. When I read the script for the anime, I was strongly drawn in by the large-scale story that involves everything from the Edo period. The song conveys the sadness and loneliness, as well as the 'sense of loss' that occurs in a fire, which is depicted in the anime ' Hikuidori'. I also expressed the 'human strength' of looking forward and desperately trying to survive, even after losing many things in a fire. I wrote the lyrics by combining these emotions. I hope you will enjoy my new song 'Kagerou' along with the anime ' Hikuidori'."
"Hikuidori Ushu Boro Tobi Gumi" is the debut work of Imamura, who is known for works such as "Ikusagami," and is the first in the ongoing " Ushu Boro Tobigumi" series. The story follows Matsunaga Gengo, a firefighter samurai who was once said to be the best in Edo, and the eccentric group of friends who gather around him to save the people of Edo from the disaster of fire. The anime is directed by Yasumi Hiroshi and produced by SynergySP. It will begin airing on January 11th on the CBC TV/TBS anime slot "Agaru Anime." The band Porno Graffitti will perform the opening theme, "Hamidashi Gomen."
