In response to the "Adachi Mitsuru Adachi Exhibition - Commemorating 55 Years of Artistic Career," an exhibition commemorating the 55th anniversary of the career of manga artist Mitsuru Adachi Mitsuru, known for works such as "Touch," being held at Sunshine City Exhibition Hall C (Toshima-ku, Tokyo) from December 19th, a special talk was held on the 18th between Adachi and Noriko Hidaka, the voice actress for Asakura Minami in the anime "Touch," who also served as the exhibition's audio guide navigator. Adachi revealed that he had "not thought about the ending at all" for "MIX," which is currently being serialized in "Gessan" (Shogakukan).
"MIX" is a sequel manga set about 30 years after Mitsuru Adachi Mitsuru's baseball manga "Touch." Regarding the inspiration behind the creation of the work, Adachi said, "I had a persistent editor who made me feel like I was being forced to draw it. It's about high school baseball, so I thought my previous work would get in the way, but since I'd come this far, I thought I'd throw in a bunch of different settings. I'm going to throw in the ingredients I have on hand and make a mixed juice, and even I can't imagine what the finished product will be, so I'll ask the readers to use their imagination. I think it will probably be drinkable." When asked by the moderator, "Have you thought much about the ending?" he replied, "Not much, or rather, not at all."
Regarding "MIX," Hidaka said, "When the serialization began, I thought it was a nostalgic landscape. The scenery is such that I feel as if I were living there, and the new protagonists are living there. I was overcome with the feeling of visiting a hometown that I had been away for a while."
The "Adachi Mitsuru Adachi Exhibition - Commemorating 55 Years of His Artistic Career" will feature over 40 treasured original drawings, including some that will be shown for the first time, as well as valuable materials such as rough sketches, making it the largest exhibition to date with a total of over 300 items on display. The exhibition will run until January 14, 2026.
