It has been revealed that voice actress Aya Hirano will be playing the role of the mother of Tamaki Sora, the lead actress in the drama "Is It Curry Today?" (TV Tokyo), which will air from midnight on December 29th.
The drama is based on the manga of the same name, written by Fujikawa Yotsuba and illustrated by Azuma Shoko, which is currently being serialized on the comic distribution site "Takecomi!" (Takeshobo). This coming-of-age gourmet drama follows college student Kurobe China, who moves to Tokyo from the countryside to attend university, as she tastes curry at famous curry restaurants with curry-loving Endo Natsumi and her seniors.
Hirano, who is active in a wide range of fields including musicals and anime, will be playing the role of Kasumi Kurobe, China's (Tamaki) mother. The character often cooked curry for China when she was little, and Hirano reflected on the filming, saying, "There are many famous curry restaurants that appear in the film, but I aimed to portray a warm and welcoming family dinner table with little China so that she would say, 'Mom's curry is the best after all!'"
He continued, "As an aside, the Hirano family makes seafood curry! When I was little, I was shocked to learn that meat was added to curry, and since then, the curry I ate at my parents' house has felt special. What kind of curry does your family make? I hope you enjoy the drama while remembering that!"
It has also been revealed that Sayu Suzukawa will play Takemura Kana, who attends the same university as China and Natsumi (Akita Shiori), Suda Aiki from "Cho Tokimeki Sendenbu" will play Karuta Aki Suda, who also attends the same university as China and Natsumi, and Murata Takehiro will play Yamakawa Kenzaburo, the caretaker of the dormitory where China and her friends live.
