It has been revealed that actress Meisa Kuroki will play the wife of the "corrupt detective" Gido, the protagonist played by Ryohei Suzuki, in the TBS Sunday Theatre "Reboot" (Sundays at 9pm) in January 2026. This will be Kuroki's first appearance in a Sunday Theatre drama in about 16 years, since "Shinzanmono" in April 2010.
The story is an extreme family suspense drama in which Hayase Riku, an ordinary pastry chef played by Suzuki, is framed for the murder of his wife and, in order to prove his innocence and find the real culprit, abandons his beloved family and past and transforms (reboots) into the face of Gido, a corrupt detective at the Metropolitan Police Department. The script is written by Tsutomu Kuroiwa, who has worked on many hit Sunday Theatre shows such as "Grand Maison Tokyo," "TOKYO MER: Running Emergency Room," and "My Family."
Kuroki plays Mayu Gido, who has been separated from Gido for several years and is currently working as a nutritionist. With complicated feelings about the time she spent with Gido, she comes into contact with Hayase Riku's rebooted version of Gido, but...
The appearances of Mieko Harada and Akira Yazaki have also been announced. Harada will play Yoshiko Hayase, the mother of Hayase Riku, the first main character of this work, and co-runs the Hayase Pastry Shop. She warmly watches over the growth of her grandson Takumi, played by Yazaki, and sometimes encourages him, supporting her family with a gentle smile, but she is also more sensitive than anyone to the conflicts her son Riku is experiencing. She possesses the "strength of a mother" that never gives way even in difficult situations, and is a reliable person who supports her family and the shop.

The story is complicated, so it took me a while to read and understand the script. Ryohei-san seemed to enjoy himself and put a lot of effort into creating his character and the way he created each shot. The main character desperately tries to find a way to return home someday, but I made sure to create a warm atmosphere that makes you think, "I really want to go back to that house." Yazaki Akira, who plays the grandson, is really cute, so I hope you enjoy watching the grandson and grandmother work together to protect the store.

The film is large-scale, has a delicate storyline, and depicts the shape of love from each of the characters' perspectives. It was a difficult role to play, a wife who cares for her husband, Gido, despite being separated from him, but it was an honor to act alongside such a wonderful cast, including the lead actor, Suzuki Ryohei. During filming, Suzuki Ryohei bought me ice cream, we had fun chats, he gave me advice on how to act, and I felt the enthusiasm of the many staff and cast members, who were like another big family to me. We asked Harada to play the role of a character who combines kindness and strength even in harsh situations, and we thought he would be able to express that character's changes in tempo in an overwhelming way.
Kuroki-san plays a character with a past and unconditional love for her estranged husband. I asked her to play the role because I thought she could portray that depth.
And then there's Yazaki-san, who plays the son. For the protagonist, he is someone entrusted to him by his late wife, and someone he wants to protect no matter what. And as the son, he bravely continues to look forward even as his father is on the run after being accused of murder. It's an incredibly difficult role. We held an audition, and I was drawn to Yazaki-san's powerful gaze and natural acting, so I offered him the role.
The way the remaining family members live their lives is also a highlight.
