The TV anime "Yani Neko," based on the manga by Nyannyan Factory currently serialized in "Young Magazine" (Kodansha), will begin airing on TOKYO MX and BS11 every Thursday at 12:30 AM starting July 2nd. The original manga depicts the daily life of "the most worthless cat." Ahead of the broadcast, Shiori Izawa, who plays the role of Al Neko, spoke about behind-the-scenes details of the recording.

--What were your feelings when you found out you were cast?

I had known about the work for a while, so when I was offered the audition, I thought, "Here it comes! It's being made into an anime!!" For me, Al-neko-chan was one of the characters I struggled with the most in terms of character development among all the characters I auditioned for, so it was a surprise, but I was very happy to be able to participate.

--What are your impressions of the work and characters?

To be frank... Yanineko-chan is really trash. If she were a human, she'd be the type I'd least want to be friends with, but since she's a cat, I guess it can't be helped, so Nyanyan Factory, who combined a nicotine addict and a cat, is amazing. I really hope Alneko-chan takes care of her body!! (lol).

--What are your impressions of Al-neko?

Anyway, she's so cute!! Drinking too much isn't good, but Al-neko's drinking style doesn't seem to bother anyone too much, so I think it's within the realm of cuteness (lol). I can't drink alcohol at all due to my constitution, so I often think how much fun it would be if I could drink, but Al-neko is basically always in a good mood and seems happy, so I'm envious.

--What influences have you received from Alneko?

Uh, hmm?? Ah, you've really gotten good at acting out the sound of vomiting!!

--Which character is your favorite?

Kansai. I appreciate how helpful and caring they are.

--What was the recording process like?

It's difficult to do comedy without taking it seriously! It's very rewarding to act in, and it's fun to watch the trial and error of my fellow cast members, making it a stimulating voice recording environment.

--What kind of direction did you receive from the production team?

I received direction to "make Al-neko's gagging sound more watery!!" I kept it moderate during the test, but I went all out for the actual take! I hope the viewers don't get nauseous! (lol)

--What was the most memorable thing about working with the other cast members?

Hame-chan's way of speaking is addictive. I think it's going to become popular.

--What was the most memorable thing about the recording?

Basically, the gestalt breakdown of dirty jokes is happening. The director is giving instructions in a very tactful way, but the actors are so numb to it that they're completely unfazed and nobody's embarrassed. In fact, it's like if you get embarrassed, you lose.

--What were some memorable scenes or scenes you'd like viewers to pay attention to?

The landlord is... having a tough time in many ways.
