The TBS Sunday Theatre drama "The Royal Family" (Sundays at 9pm) starring Satoshi Tsumabuki will begin airing on October 12th. The drama is based on the novel of the same name by Hayami Kazuma (Shincho Bunko). Set in the world of horse racing, the drama tells the story of a man and a racehorse over a 20-year period, who create miracles through the bonds between family and friends. Tsumabuki plays tax accountant Kurisu Eiji. Other cast members include Koichi Sato, Ren Meguro, and Wakana Matsumoto. The first episode will be extended by 15 minutes.
Kurisu, who had always respected his father, who runs a tax accounting firm, suffers setbacks in his career after a certain incident and loses all hope. His life comes to a sudden halt, but then he meets Sanno Kozo (played by Sato), a dynamic and kind-hearted horse owner, and things start to move forward. The series will be directed by Tsukahara Ayuko, director of the film "The Last Mile" (2024) and the TBS drama "Grand Maison Tokyo" (same address).
Meguro plays an important role that holds the key to the story, while Matsumoto plays Nozaki Kanako, Kurisu's ex-girlfriend who runs a racehorse breeding farm. Also appearing in the cast are Sawamura Kazuki as Shiina Yoshihiro, Kozo's arch rival and horse owner, Kuroki Hitomi as Kozo's wife, Sanno Kyoko, and Kotaro Koizumi as Sanno Yutaro, the eldest son and potential successor to Kozo's company.
In the first episode... Eiji Kurisu (Tsumabuki), who works at a major tax accountant's firm, suffers a setback after a certain incident. Just when he can no longer find hope, he is asked by Royal Human, a staffing agency run by Kozo Sanno (Sato), to investigate the state of the company's horse racing division. The horse racing division that Kozo is promoting at the firm continues to run at a loss. His eldest son, Yutaro (Koizumi), who is the head of the human resources department and does not approve of this, has asked him to do so, with the intention of abolishing the division. Kozo's wife, Kyoko (Kuroki), also dislikes the horse racing business.
Kurisu goes to meet Kozo at the Hokkaido auction, but is late. At that moment, a rival horse owner, Shiina Yoshihiro (Sawamura), wins the auction for the new horse that Kozo desperately wanted.
Kurisu is stunned by the sight of an auction he has never seen before. Kozo scolds him for being late, but later lets him accompany him on his horse owner duties and introduces him to his beloved horses. Kurisu also has an unexpected reunion with his ex-girlfriend, Nozaki Kanako (Matsumoto), who now helps out at her family's racehorse breeding farm in Hokkaido.
