"A House in the Middle of Nowhere" (ABC TV/TV Asahi, Sundays 7:58 PM) is a variety show that uses satellite photos to find a remote house. In the October 12th broadcast, the show heads to a "new house" introduced to them by Christophe, the owner of a home and restaurant in the mountains of France, which was visited in the previous episode, "Major Renovation!! Dramatic Before and After & A House in the Middle of Nowhere Combined Special."
The place they were introduced to was at the southwestern tip of the Alps in southern France, a chicken farm where Christophe stocks chickens for food. It was about six kilometers further into the mountains from his home and restaurant. "It's more isolated than here, so I'm sure you'll like it. I'll be happy to show you around," said Christophe, as he led the search team in his four-wheel drive vehicle. They said the road could only be reached by four-wheel drive.
The cliff road with exposed rock faces is extremely rugged, with scenery and scale completely different from Japan. The search team couldn't help but scream, "This is much scarier than the dangerous roads we travel on in Japan!" Along the way, they discovered wild chamois (known as alpine serows in Japan) and saw the magnificent scenery of villages built on the cliffs, making the Alps' natural scenery another highlight.
They arrived to find four chicken coops built on a site carved into the mountain slope. They were greeted by Eric (53) and his wife, Marta (48). They started the chicken farm in 2018. The land had been left to rot for over 60 years, but the couple spent about four years leveling it and building the chicken coops themselves. The search team closely observed Eric and his wife's free-range chicken farming and their daily lives.
The guests in the studio were kabuki actor Ichikawa Udanji and model Hiratsuka Hina of the idol group "Harajuku Ekimae Parties Fuwa Fuwa." Hiratsuka seemed impressed, saying, "Even though it was supposed to be very busy, it was impressive how calm and relaxed the time seemed to be."
