The total number of viewers exceeded 23,040,000. In terms of the all-time box office rankings, it surpasses the record of Spirited Away, which was released in 2001 and grossed approximately ¥31,680,000,000. The top spot on the same ranking was taken by Spirited Away Slayer: Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train, released in 2020, making the top two spots for Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba theatrical releases in Japan.
The film began its overseas release in August, and has since attracted a cumulative total of 55 million viewers worldwide, including Japan, and grossed over 68,015,240,000 yen. In North America, it was released on September 12th, and drew an audience of approximately 6 million viewers and grossed approximately $70.6 million (approximately 10,237,000,000 yen at an exchange rate of 145 yen to the dollar), breaking the record for the highest opening weekend for a Japanese animated film in approximately 26 years.
"Chapter 1: Akaza Returns," part of the "Infinity Castle Arc, was released in 452 theaters on July 18th, surpassing "Mugen Train," which was released in 2020 and set a new record of 40.4 billion yen in box office revenue in Japan. In the three days since its release, it has grossed approximately 5.52 billion yen and attracted approximately 3.84 million viewers, making it a huge hit that surpasses "Mugen Train." It grossed 10 billion yen in the eight days since its release, 20 billion yen in the 23 days since its release, and over 30 billion yen in the 46 days since its release.
"Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba: Kimetsu no Yaiba" tells the story of Tanjiro Kamado, whose family was killed by demons, who joins the Demon Slaying Corps in order to turn his sister Nezuko, who has turned into a demon, back into a human.
