"A House Alone" (ABC TV/TV Asahi, Sundays 7:58 PM) is a variety show that uses satellite photos to find a remote house. The September 14th broadcast follows the life of an 85-year-old woman in the mountains of Shimane Prefecture who protects the land that her late husband has inherited for generations. The guests are actor Hisahiro Ogura and former singing sister and singer Shoko Haida.
The satellite images obtained by the search team showed three buildings in a place that seemed to have been cut out of a deep forest. The search team headed to the nearest settlement in the mountains and showed the satellite images to the residents, who immediately said, "This is a place that even we would never be able to go to." They went to the home of the person believed to be the owner and asked an 85-year-old woman to look at the satellite images, who replied, "I still manage the property." The woman, who lost her husband three years ago, said that she had been commuting to the mountains to grow vegetables for over 50 years since leaving her mountain home.
Led by a woman at the wheel, we headed towards a house nestled deep in the mountains. The mountain road that cut through countless forests was narrow and cliff-like with no guardrails. From the driver's seat, we could see the valley floor below. At the end of this rugged mountain road stood a house.
The main house, which was over 100 years old and where the husband was born and raised, is no longer there, but the work shed is filled with family memories. The couple's memories are told alongside photographs and personal belongings taken by the husband, who had many hobbies, including photography. The trailer, captioned "A powerful 85-year-old," shows the woman plowing the fields and weeding.
