It has been announced that the sequel to the hit film " I Wish I Could Meet You Again on the Hill Where That Flower Blooms (Anohana)," starring actors Haruka Fukuhara and Koshi Mizukami , which grossed over 4.5 billion yen at the box office, "I Want to Meet You Again, On the Hill Where Those Stars Fall (Ano Hoshi)," will be released in 2026.
"Anohana" is a live-action adaptation of the original novel (Starts Publishing Bunko) by Natsue Shiomi, which became a hit on TikTok, especially among teenagers, and has sold a total of 900,000 copies. It is a love story about Yuri (played by Fukuhara), a high school girl living in the present day, who travels back in time to 1945 Japan and meets Akira (played by Mizukami), a kamikaze pilot.
The production of the sequel was announced as a surprise at a fan event held at Tokyo International Forum Hall A (Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo) on August 8th, with Fukuhara, Ito Kentaro (who plays the kamikaze pilot Ishimaru), Onozuka Hayato (who plays Kato), and original author Shiomi Natsue taking to the stage. Shiomi said, "In my mind, I think of 'Anohana' and 'Ano Hoshi' as a set, and I think that if you read up to 'Ano Hoshi', you'll feel that the story is complete. I'm sure readers will be happy that a sequel has been decided to be made into a movie," and Ito jokingly asked, "I wonder if we'll be in it?", which got the audience excited.
