It has been announced that singer Hiroko Moriguchi will release a spin-off of the "GUNDAM SONG COVERS" series of albums covering songs from the popular anime series "Gundam", titled "GUNDAM SONG COVERS -ORCHESTRA-" on June 18th. The final chapter of the "GUNDAM SONG COVERS" series, "3", was released in 2022, but in response to calls for an encore, a spin-off based on the concept of "Hiroko Moriguchi x Gundam Songs x Full Orchestra" will be released.
The Japan Pops Orchestra (Tacticato Orchestra), formed by young musicians active both in Japan and abroad, will perform orchestral arrangements of 10 songs, including self-covers of Moriguchi's signature songs "With Love to the Water Planet" and "ETERNAL WIND ~A Smile in the Shining Wind~."
The lineup includes two versions: a limited edition and a regular edition. The limited edition will consist of a 2-CD set and a Blu-ray disc. The Tsukasa Kotobuki case will feature an original illustration by Tsukasa Kotobuki, and will be designed by F91 from "Mobile Suit Gundam F91" and Moriguchi.
Moriguchi commented, "I am truly surprised that the calls for encores never stopped. When we announced that "GUNDAM SONG COVERS 3," to be released in 2022, would be the final chapter of the series, we received many voices from fans hoping for a sequel. We are very happy to be able to respond to that with this spin-off. The albums have been released since 2019, and all three have ranked in the top three of the Oricon Weekly Album Rankings and received the Planning Award at The Japan Record Awards. We feel that Gundam songs are our "eternal hope." During the recording, we were so moved by the high affinity between the magnificent Gundam songs and the vibrant orchestra that we were sometimes moved to tears. Please enjoy the beautiful theme songs along with the rich sound."
"GUNDAM SONG COVERS" is a "Gundam song cover album for adults" released from 2019 to 2022. It was selected as the planning award of the "The Japan Record Awards" and the total number of copies shipped in the series has exceeded 250,000.
