It has been announced that the light novel "The Strongest Magician's Retirement Plan" from HJ Bunko (Hobby Japan) will be adapted into a TV anime and will air on CBC TV and TBS's anime block "Agaru Anime" in 2027. It was also announced that Yuto Uemura will voice the protagonist, Ars Regin, the strongest magician currently active.
"The Strongest Mage's Retirement Plan" is a light novel written by Izushiro and illustrated by Miyuki Ruria. Ars Regin, the strongest mage who stands at the pinnacle of over 100,000 mages, attends a magic academy while concealing his identity, and takes on the challenge of training the next generation of mages and hunting monsters. The manga adaptation has also gained popularity, and the series has sold over 1 million copies in total.
The anime will be directed by Yusuke Suzuki, known for the "Duel Masters" series and "This Monster Wants to Eat Me Heartless Monster," with series composition by Jūokuemon Ichikawa, known for "Himitsu no AiPri," character design by Yuki Kitajima, who served as animation director for "Detective PreCure" and the "Laid-Back Camp" series, and sound direction by Takatoshi Hamano, known for "IDOLiSH7." It will be produced by HOTLINE.
A teaser visual has been released depicting Ars, with a confident expression, wielding the magician's weapon "AWR" against a backdrop of the Tower of Babel and a world ravaged by monsters, which are symbolic of the work. A teaser PV has also been released, showing Ars defeating monsters with overwhelming power as the strongest magician, as well as scenes that hint at new encounters at the magic academy.
Uemura, who plays Ars, said, "Ars, the strongest magician, is a firm character who is not fazed by anything. Because of this, the atmosphere of his conversations and the way he maintains emotional distance are unique and give him an elusive impression. I am interested to see how he will change during his time at the academy. I feel that this is an interesting work in which the characters, including Ars, are portrayed. I think it is an animation that both fans of the original work and those who are watching it for the first time will be able to enjoy, so please look forward to the broadcast!"
The original author, Izushiro, commented, "I am delighted that 'The Strongest Magician's Retirement Plan' will be made into an anime. I feel like I have finally become someone important. Fortunately, the characters of this work have already been brought to life twice, through the original illustrations and the manga adaptation. And now, with this anime adaptation, they will be given new life once again, for which I am extremely grateful. I am so grateful to the illustrators, manga artists, HJ Inc., everyone who has worked so hard on this work, the anime staff, and above all, to all the readers who have supported me until today. I am so grateful to everyone who has made me someone important. There are so many people I should thank that even a roundabout thank you may not be enough. Thank you so much. I hope you will enjoy the anime 'The Strongest Magician's Retirement Plan'."
Miyuki Ruria, who is in charge of the illustrations for the original work, said, "Congratulations on the anime adaptation of 'The Strongest Magician's Retirement Plan'! Just imagining seeing Ars and the others come to life in the anime makes me very happy, and as a viewer myself, I am really looking forward to it. Everyone, please give it your support!"
Karu Yonehara, who is in charge of the comic adaptation, said, "Congratulations on the anime adaptation of 'The Strongest Magician's Retirement Plan'! I was deeply moved by this news as I reminisced about the time when the series was being serialized. As a reader myself, it is one of my favorite works, so I am truly happy to hear the wonderful news that it will be made into an anime. I am overwhelmed with emotion at the thought of finally being able to see Ars-kun in motion! I am really looking forward to the broadcast!"
To commemorate the TV anime adaptation, it was also announced that a manga prequel to Ars's story, "The Strongest Magician's Seclusion Plan Zero -The Secret History of the Beginning-," will begin serialization this winter on the manga website "Comic Fire." The story will depict the events before Ars enrolled in the Second Magic Academy, revealing his arduous journey and unknown past as he came to be known as the world's strongest single magician. The manga will be illustrated by Karu Yonehara.
