Jazz singer Chie Ayado will appear on Tetsuko Kuroyanagi's long-running talk show "Tetsuko's Room" (TV Asahi), airing on July 2nd at 1 PM.
She debuted at the age of 40 and has been performing for 28 years. While her singing career seems to have been smooth sailing, she says that she was criticized by critics who said, "This isn't jazz," and for a long time, "I couldn't say, 'I'm a jazz singer.'" She considered retiring during the COVID-19 pandemic, but after seeing the reactions of the audience who came to her concerts, she finally began to feel confident, she reveals.
Twelve years ago, her son, Isa, was diagnosed with a rare disease that caused him to lose his sense of smell. Because it also affects his sense of taste, she prepares elaborate meals for him every day. She will be showing off some of these dishes to Ms. Kuroyanagi.
