◇The following contains spoilers.
One day at Akari's (Noro Kayoko) election office, the topic of Hotaru's (Shishido Kavka) son Yota's (Yamamoto Yuzuki) favorite anime came up. When they found out that Shiratori Hikaru (Hidaka) was the voice of Yota's favorite character, "Fururun," Mari (Kuroki) excitedly said, "Isn't he the voice of Jerry from 'Jelly Beans Adventure'? I loved that show!"
Subsequently, other works featuring Hikaru included "Yayoi-chan from 'Piroro Across the Street'", "Hitsuji-chan from 'Ganmo 8/100'", and "Higashi-chan from 'Catch'".
Hidaka is known for her roles as Peter Pan in "The Adventures of Peter Pan," Satsuki in "My Neighbor Totoro,"Akane Tendo in "Ranma 1/2," and Minami Asakura in the popular anime "Touch."
When Mitsuru's appearance in the show was a parody of a work that Hidaka had appeared in, it sparked a lot of discussion on social media, with comments such as, "It's an homage to Noriko Hidaka's works lol," "It's all just parodies of Noriko Hidaka's works lol," "I laughed when I saw that the works she appeared in were slightly changed," "They're all parodies of real works, I love how they pay attention to these little details," and "She's Minami from Touch, but she's Higashi from Catch, it's really slowly sinking in, please stop lol."
The drama is an "election entertainment" story in which Mari Hoshino recruits Akari Tsukioka, a bar owner with no political experience, to run for governor of Tokyo, and takes on the gubernatorial election as her campaign strategist.
