The national championships of the 37th National College of Technology Robot Contest, affectionately known as "Kosen Robocon," will be broadcast on NHK General TV from 2:00 p.m. on December 15th.
The National College of Technology Robocon is a competition where students from National Colleges of Technology throughout Japan use their ideas to create robots for different tasks each year, and compete with each other to show off their results. It began in 1988, and this year is the 37th time it has been held. The best teams that won regional competitions held in eight locations around the country will compete fiercely.
This year's competition is "Return of the Robots." Competitors fly their robots from the starting point to the landing spot beyond the no-grounding area, and compete to see how many balls and boxes they can bring back from the surrounding area. This is the first time that the rules of the National College of Technology Robocon have been attempted, with robots flying to land in the targeted location and returning to their original location. The winner is determined by the strength of the robot to withstand the impact of landing, and the reliability of the means to bring back the balls and boxes beyond the no-grounding area.
The program features a tense and memorable match between two championship contenders, robots that thrilled the audience with unexpected ideas, and a team that strives to dedicate the victory to their teacher.
