It has been announced that director Hayao Miyazaki's animated feature film "Howl's Moving Castle" (2004) will be broadcast on Nippon Television's movie slot "Friday Road Show" from 9:00 pm on January 10, 2025. It will be broadcast uncut.
"Howl's Moving Castle" is based on a children's book by Diana Wynne Jones. It is a fantasy masterpiece in which the main character, Sophie, who has been turned into an old woman by a witch's curse, heads to the "moving castle" where the wizard Howl lives in order to break the curse. Actor Chieko Baisho voiced Sophie and Takuya Kimura voiced Howl.
Released in November 2004, the film received high praise both at home and abroad, winning the Osella Award at the Venice International Film Festival and being nominated for an Academy Award. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the film's release.
