The eighth episode of the TV drama "The Travel Nurse" (TV Asahi, Thursdays 9pm), starring actor Okada Masaki, will be broadcast as an extended special on December 12th.
Megumi Yagi (Mayumi Wakamura), a former nurse with pancreatic cancer who worked at Nishitokyo General Hospital until a year and a half ago, visits the hospital. She appoints hospital director Taku Yakushimaru (Ikusaburo Yamazaki) as the surgeon and asks him to perform the operation, but Yakushimaru and the head of the nursing department, Touko Aikawa (Shinobu Terajima), look pale.
A year and a half ago, a patient who had undergone surgery by Yakushimaru suddenly died from post-operative complications. At that time, Megumi's fatal mistake was discovered, and she quit her job, almost as if she was running away. Why did Megumi suddenly return to the hospital and ask Yakushimaru to perform the surgery? Touko is filled with anger and distrust.
Politician Haibara Kazuo (Owada Shinya) is admitted to the hospital for a medical checkup. Yakushimaru, who has secret connections with Haibara, instructs Touko to treat him with respect in order to obtain the subsidies necessary to further improve the hospital's environment. However, the nurses are dissatisfied with Haibara's excessive demands and repeated sexual harassment. Touko is caught between Yakushimaru and a rock-bottom situation.
Yakushimaru decides to have travel nurse Ayumu Nasuda (played by Okada) participate in Megumi's surgery. Recognizing Ayumu's skills as a nurse practitioner, who is qualified to perform certain medical procedures, Yakushimaru formally scouts him, asking him, "Why don't you graduate from being a travel nurse?"
A rift occurs between Ayumu and Kuki Shizuka (played by Nakai Kiichi) over whether or not to perform Megumi's surgery. An unprecedented emergency occurs, throwing the entire hospital into chaos.
A sequel to the drama of the same name that aired in October 2022. The quirky duo of Ayumi, a freelance nurse known as a "travel nurse," and Shizuka, a "super nurse" who heals people by observing them, reform the medical field by putting patients first.
