The 47th episode, "Kanashikutomo", of the NHK Taiga drama "Dear Radiance (Hikaru Kimi e)", starring Yoshitaka Yuriko, was broadcast on December 8th. Viewers were confused by the words and actions of Fujiwara no Kinto, played by Keita Machida, and asked, "What's wrong!?"
In episode 47, Mahiro (Yoshitaka) and her friends get caught up in a battle with foreign pirates, and Shuming (Matsushita Kohei) is killed in an enemy attack.
Meanwhile, the damage caused by the attack is reported to the Imperial Court, and as unrest spreads, Regent Yorimichi (played by Keisuke Watanabe) takes no action and stops reporting to Taiko Michinaga (played by Tasuku Emoto). Sanesuke (played by Ryuji Akiyama), who is frustrated by this situation, receives a letter from Takaie (played by Ryo Ryusei), who is in charge of the fight against the pirates.
Although Takaie and his men succeeded in repelling the Toi, the decision on the awards was not made until two months later. The nobles had already lost interest in Dazaifu, and Kinto and Yukinari (played by Daichi Watanabe) also argued that the awards were "unnecessary."
At this time, Sanesuke was indignant at the other nobles looking down on Takaie and other distinguished contributors, saying, "This should not happen!" When he visited Michinaga, he lamented that "it was not my power to do this and only one person was given the award," and that "it is the height of regret."
Just then, Kinto arrives. He intended to come to inform Michinaga that the matter at Dazaifu had been resolved, but he becomes displeased when he realizes that Michinaga has already received the report from Sanesuke.
Approaching Michinaga, Kinto raised his voice and said, "Wasn't Takaie your enemy? That's why I didn't protect him even at the camp. For your sake!" He continued, "After Ise's death, Takaie was the next threat to you. It would have been better if he had died in battle. I didn't acknowledge him for your sake so that he wouldn't gain any more power in Dazaifu." He claimed that he had acted and spoken in Michinaga's best interest.
However, Michinaga criticized Kinto and the others, saying, "In a national crisis, before criticizing Takaie, we should consider the seriousness of what has happened. What happened and how did you deal with it? The behavior of the nobles this time has been far too lax, I am astonished." Kinto responded, "So that's how you saw us. Trusted Sanesuke, not us..." and seemed hurt by Michinaga's words.
