The special program "Stars Who Became Stars" (Fuji TV), hosted by Uemura Emiko and Shingo Katori, will be broadcast from 7:00 pm on December 16th.
This human documentary variety show quietly traces the careers and personalities of stars who sadly passed away this year, and commemorates the deceased with gratitude and respect. Using precious archive footage stored at Fuji TV and stories shared by those involved, the show gently sheds light on the brilliance of stars who are still etched in the hearts of viewers.
Along with Kazuo Funaki and Teruhiko Saigo, Yukio Hashi was one of the "original big three" who graced the world of Japanese pop music in the Showa era. In 1962, his duet with Sayuri Yoshinaga, "Itsumo Yume wo," became a huge hit, selling 2.6 million copies.
Shigehiro Ishida, president of Hashi's agency, Yume Group, spoke of Hashi's appeal, saying, "She expresses words honestly and sings very honestly. It makes the listeners feel very good, too."
His wife Mayumi speaks for the first time on television about the unknown final years of her husband Yukio Hashi. "He worried about me until the very end," she says, revealing her inner thoughts. She also reveals the "final three months" between his final performance and his death.
The program will also feature memorable moments from Yoshiyuki Kazuko, Mino Monta, Nagashima Shigeo, and others.
