The grand prize announcement event for the "Mr. Junior High School Boy Contest 2025," which determines the "coolest junior high school boy in Japan," was held in Tokyo on November 29th, and out of the 13 finalists, Sonoyama Minato, a second-year junior high school student from Aichi Prefecture, was selected as the grand prize winner.
Sonoyama expressed her joy at winning the award, saying, "I had always said that I would win the grand prize, but I was a little worried, so when they called I was really surprised and happy, and a lot of different emotions welled up inside me."
Through the contest, she commented, "I really felt how fortunate I was to be born into such a blessed environment, being supported by those around me." In the future, she enthusiastically said, "I would like to try my hand at modeling and acting and be active in a wide range of fields."
Sonoyama, who won the grand prize, received a prize of 500,000 yen and the right to perform at the fashion event "TGC teen" to be held in 2026. She will also be appointed as the official ambassador for next year's contest.
The "Mr. Junior High School Boys Contest 2025" was open to any junior high school boy who was not affiliated with an agency, and received approximately 16,000 applications. The runner-up was Junki Shirasaka, a first-year junior high school student from Aichi Prefecture.
