TV Asahi will be broadcasting a special program for four hours starting at 6:00 PM on December 25th, entitled "100 Years of Showa: Final Report - Tonight's Decision! Showa Masterpieces Chosen by 10,000 People Nationwide that Will Remain for 100 Years to Come." This latest installment in the "Showa Masterpieces" series will reveal the "Showa Masterpieces that Will Remain for 100 Years to Come," based on a nationwide survey of 10,000 people, divided into four categories: "Showa Diva Division," "Male Artist Division," "National Group Division," and "Showa Idol Division."
The program will feature a variety of famous songs by artists such as Momoe Yamaguchi, Kyu Sakamoto, Akina Nakamori, Hideki Saijo, Kenji Sawada, Shinji Tanimura, Miyuki Nakajima, Teresa Teng, the female duo Pink Lady, and the three-member idol group Candies.
The program is also packed with precious nostalgic footage, and guest Yuki Amami commented, "I can't help but sing along (laughs)," as she watched the footage. She was particularly delighted by the rare footage of Yujiro Ishihara and Tetsuya Watari singing a classic song together, saying, "That's amazing! So cool!" Furthermore, Ichikawa Udanji shared a precious memory of a certain diva, while Miyazaki Yoshiko and Matsumoto Iyo shared memories from their younger days.
As a special feature, we will be featuring hitmakers from the Showa era, looking back at the masterpieces created by legendary creators who produced many hits, including Aku Yu, Tokura Shunichi, Hirao Masaaki, Matsumoto Takashi, Iwatani Tokiko, and Tsutsumi Kyohei.
In addition, four other impressive artists will perform songs. Kiyoshi Hikawa will perform Seiko Matsuda's smash hit "Akai Sweet Pea," which he describes as "the starting point of my life." Aya Shimazu will cover Hibari Misora's last single "Kawa no Nagare no Youni" and Saburo Kitajima's masterpiece "Matsuri." Judy Ongg will perform the classic "Miserete," created by composer Kyohei Tsutsumi, and Kosetsu Minami will perform "Kandagawa," a hit from his "Kaguyahime" days.
The MCs will be Hideki Takahashi and TV Asahi announcer Yoko Oshita. Guests will include Amami, Udanji, Miyazaki, Matsumoto, as well as Anmika, Ikko, and Teruyuki Tsuchida.
