It has been announced that the TV anime series "Are There Any Gals Who Are Kind to Otaku!?", based on the romantic comedy manga currently being serialized in the manga magazine "Monthly Comic Zenon" (Core Mix), will be broadcast on TV Asahi and BS Asahi in 2026. The romantic comedy follows a nerdy high school boy, Takuya Seo, who is drawn to two gals, the cool Kei Amane and the Konomi Inagaki Yoshimi will voice Kei Amane, and Yu Serizawa will voice Kotoko Ijichi.
The main staff was also announced, with Arata Mita serving as director, Kazuhiko Inukai as series composer, Rion Matsuda as character designer and chief animation director, and Wataru Sato as music composer. The series will be produced by TMS Entertainment's 6th studio. A teaser visual and teaser PV featuring Kei Amane and Kotoko Ijichi have been released.
Komura, who plays Seo Takuya, commented, "What kind of otaku are you all? I'm sure everyone is an otaku of some kind. I'm sure that's the case. That's why I think there will be many moments when you can empathize with Seo-kun. I'm an otaku myself, so while I was acting I thought, 'This is almost me' (laughs). You should also pay attention to the charming gals, who are the polar opposite of such otaku. It's a must-see to see how these characters, who at first glance seem unlikely to interact, weave a page of youth together!"
Inagaki, who plays Amane Kei, said, "Everyone is unique and full of contrasts, but Amane in particular shows a wide range of expressions. She's a cool but interesting girl. I tried many different things to portray the charming Amane. I hope you'll pay attention not only to the otaku, but also to the precious relationship between the two gals and the directing that can only be done in anime. Be sure to tune in to find out if there are any gals who are kind to otakus!"
Serizawa, who plays Ijichi Kotoko, commented, "The words 'otaku' and 'gal' are sometimes used in a negative sense. But this work has a deep understanding of both otaku and gals, and portrays both with care! It's a wonderful work that makes you love and like all the characters. Kotoko is cute, kind to everyone, and a girl like the sun. You're sure to fall in love with her! Please look forward to 'Ota Gal', where you'll laugh at the well-paced jokes and feel warm and kind at the same time!"
Director Mita said, "We had the original authors check it, and I think the finished product is full of the thoughts of each staff member. There's still a little bit until it airs, but please look forward to seeing the romantic comedy life of Seo, Amane, Ijichi and the others as they talk, move and react in the anime!"
Matsuda, who is the character designer and chief animation director, commented, "The characters are all compassionate and kind, so I drew them hoping to bring even a moment of healing to everyone. As this was my first time designing characters, I struggled with whether I could express the cuteness that the original author has expressed in the anime, but as I spent my days drawing, I came to love them as much as my own children. They all have such cute personalities...! I hope many people will watch it!"
Inukai, who is in charge of series composition, said, "Half of this work is made up of kindness. And the other half, as you might expect, is also made up of kindness. The characters, the story, and the humor, everything is delicate and gentle. That was the feeling I had strongly when I first read the original work, and even after reading it in depth. So, when I was writing the screenplay, I kept in mind not to damage or destroy this gentle world of the work, and took on the challenge."
The manga is based on a story by Norishiro-chan and illustrated by Uozumi Sakana, and has been serialized in Monthly Comic Zenon since 2021. 11 volumes of the comic have been released, and the total number of copies published has exceeded 1 million, making it a very popular series.
