It has been announced that the theatrical anime version of "Macross Plus," part of the popular anime series "Macross," titled "Macross Plus MOVIE EDITION," will be remastered in 4K and released as a 4K ULTRA HD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc set on March 25, 2026. The 4K remaster set will be released to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the film's theatrical release in 1995. It was also announced that "Macross Plus MOVIE EDITION 4K ULTRA HD ver." will be released in theaters from March 20, 2026.
Director Shoji Kawamori commented, "We've remastered Macross Plus: Movie Edition in 4K to suit the current trend of improving home viewing environments. I believe this has enabled us to create an emotional portrayal that will allow viewers to feel even more vividly the 'true sky' and 'young people challenging themselves to become truly free' that this film depicts. Also, by watching it in today's world, where the idea of jobs being taken over by AI is becoming a reality, I believe viewers will be able to experience the theme of 'what is free will' more realistically and as entertainment. I hope you will check it out."
Takumi Yamazaki, who plays Isamu Dyson, said, "I think the highlight of this work is the blue of the sky. In the 4K version, the sky is simply blue. I can't wait to finally see that vivid blue reproduced on home televisions. The story is genuinely interesting, and it's full of timeless highlights, such as the depiction of AI that is still relevant 30 years later, the love story that remains universal in any era, and the excitement of the aerial combat. I think that's why there are so many fans who still support the series. I would be happy if fans who already own the previous packaging could experience the blue of the sky in 4K."
The special limited edition 4K remaster set will be enclosed in a special storage box featuring an original illustration by Ichiro Itano, and will come with a special booklet containing a new interview as a bonus. The price is 11,000 yen.

"Macross Plus" depicts a love triangle between test pilots Isamu Dyson, Gard Gore Bowman, and virtual idol producer Myung Fang Loong, against the backdrop of a development race for the Valkyrie, a fighter jet that transforms into a robot. An original video animation (OVA) was released in 1994-95, and an animated film was released in 1995. Kawamori was in charge of general direction and mechanical design, and Shinichiro Watanabe served as director. Nobumoto Keiko wrote the script, Masayuki Masayuki was in charge of original character design, and Kanno Yoko was in charge of music.
