NHK announcer Mayuko Wakuda will be the Caster and main narrator for "Unsolved Cases" (General, Saturdays at 10pm), which will begin regular broadcasts in October, and attended a preview screening and press conference held at the NHK Broadcasting Center (Shibuya-ku, Tokyo) on September 25th.
Wakata's appearance on the show will be her first in a year and a half since leaving "News 7" in March 2024 due to the birth of her second child. At the start of the press conference, she said, "I'm so nervous my hands are shaking," but added enthusiastically, "It's a program that deals with very serious themes, so I feel a sense of responsibility and wonder if my announcing ability and experience will be enough for the job, but at the same time I think it will be a big challenge for me." Chief Producer Ogasawara Takuya, who is in charge of production, also attended the press conference.
"Unsolved Cases" is a popular series of NHK Specials that began airing in 2011, unraveling historical crimes through thorough investigative reporting. It will begin airing as a regular program in October this year, unearthing new facts and testimonies, while also highlighting connections and lessons for the present day. The first episode (on October 4th) will air the first part of the "Hachioji Supermarket Robbery and Murder Case," an incident in which three employees, including a high school girl, were shot in the head and killed at a supermarket in Hachioji City in 1995.
