Singer-songwriter Aimyon appeared at the rehearsal for the 76th NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen, held at the NHK Hall in Shibuya, Tokyo on December 29th. Aimyon, who has been making headlines for her new short haircut, was told by the press that it suited her, to which she replied with a shy smile, "Thank you," and revealed that she cut about 50 centimeters off her hair a month ago.
When asked why she cut her long hair, she explained, "I had been growing it for about four years because I wanted to donate my hair. If I was going to grow it out anyway, I wanted to donate a lot of it. Now that I've reached my 10th anniversary (of my debut), I thought it would be okay to cut it now."
Now that her hair is short, she laughed and said, "It's so much easier!" and jokingly added, "I don't even use a hair dryer right now; I just towel dry it, but I'd like to use a proper hair dryer before New Year's Eve!"
Aimyon will be performing at Kohaku for the seventh time and will sing her 18th single, "Venus Belt," which was released in October. "I want to close out this year with a performance that everyone who comes to see can enjoy," she said enthusiastically.
The theme of the 76th NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen is "Connecting, Connecting, New Year's Eve," and it will be hosted by Hiroiki Ariyoshi, Haruka Ayase, Mio Imada, and announcer Naoko Suzuki. It will be broadcast from 7:20 pm to 11:45 pm on December 31st (with some news breaks).
