The stage play "Life in the Theater" starring actors Shinichi Tsutsumi and Tomoya Nakamura began performances at IMM THEATER (Bunkyo Ward, Tokyo) on September 5th. Tsutsumi and Nakamura, who have been close friends since their first performance together in 2009, face off one-on-one for the first time in this two-person play. Stage photos have also been released.
"Life in the Theatre" is a masterpiece by David Mamet, a leading American playwright of contemporary theatre. It is a dense human drama that follows the accumulation of various emotions, such as the interactions between two actors, one veteran and one young, that unfold both in front and behind the scenes of the "theater," casual everyday conversations, and the relationship that changes over time.
The play premiered in Japan in 1997, with Renji Ishibashi playing the veteran actor Robert and Tsutsumi playing the young actor John.
After about 30 years, Tsutsumi will play Robert and Nakamura will play John, which is also a hot topic. The production is directed by Nobuo Mizuta.
The show will run at IMM THEATER until the 23rd. The play will also be performed in Kyoto, Aichi, Osaka, Ehime, and Miyagi.
