The series "Sakurai Sho's Architecture Learning Journey," which is serialized in the lifestyle magazine "Casa BRUTUS" (Magazine House) by Sakurai Sho of the popular group "Arashi," will be published as a book titled "Sakurai Sho's Architecture Journey [Modern Architecture Edition]," which will be released on October 21st.
Sakurai first appeared in the magazine in the September 2010 issue. In a feature titled "Visiting Naoshima, the Mecca of Architecture and Art," he toured various facilities in the Setouchi region, including an art museum designed by architect Tadao Ando. The series continued for 15 years from the March 2011 issue, and Sakurai has visited over 150 buildings during the ongoing series. This new book is a compilation of his visits to contemporary architecture, organized by architect.
◇ Comment from Sho Sakurai
The series in "Casa BRUTUS" has finally been published as a book titled "Sho Sakurai's Journey Through Architecture." I had always wanted to compile it into a book, so now that it has come to fruition is a long-cherished wish!
And as the title "A Journey to Learn Architecture" suggests, I have only studied architecture from the standpoint of not knowing anything about it, so I think the enjoyment of the book will be conveyed to people who are not familiar with architecture as well. On the other hand, I have always thought that no matter how many beautiful photos and words you use to try to convey the appeal of architecture, there is always a limit to how far you can go. After all, there are some things that cannot be beaten by actually going in person, so I hope this book will be an opportunity for people to actually experience architecture. I think there will be more excitement there than what you will find on the pages of a magazine.
