It has been revealed that voice actress Chiyuki Miura will play the main character, a player named Ghost, who lives off the prize money from a murder game, in the TV anime "Playing Death Games to Put Food on the Table," based on the light novel by Yuji Ukai of MF Bunko J (KADOKAWA). In line with "Ghost Day" on July 26, the Ultra Teaser PV and Ultra Teaser Visual were also released.
Miura said, "I was very happy when I was chosen for the role. However, life in this world is so fragile...I was excited to see how it would be portrayed in the anime. I hope people will watch to see what the ghosts feel and how they live in the brutal world of Game of Death. I will do my best to act."
Director Ueno Sota commented, "I made this as if praying that their light would continue to burn until now and forever and ever. I made it as if I was loving them, so that their light would continue to burn until now and forever and ever and ever."
Rintaro Ikeda, who is in charge of series composition, said, "This is a so-called 'death game' story, in which girls trade lives in front of an invisible audience, but when I read the original work, I felt there was something more to it. What could that be? I thought about it all the way through until I finished writing the script. I hope that you can feel the breathing of these girls living in this crazy world."
Hewa, who is in charge of the concept art, said, "This was my first time working on concept art for anime, so when I first heard about the role I was very worried about whether I could do it. However, I had many meetings with Director Ueno and the staff, and over time we gradually took the time to shape the world of the original. I hope that everyone can feel this unique and dangerous world view."
Sound director Noriyoshi Konuma commented, "As I read through the work and considered the characters' motives and thoughts, many things came to mind. I also considered what my theme should be in this work, and what it means for them to live. There is a lot I could say about it, but I would encourage everyone to watch it. And nothing would make me happier than that. My theme has been decided, but I will talk about it again in the final episode..."
Matsumoto Junichi, who is in charge of the music, said, "When we started making the film, the director told me that he wanted to create a work that would affirm the girls in the story in a big way. I will do my best to respond to the depths of the work and characters, and the spirit of the production team, through the music, and accompany them! The stories of each individual that emerge from life and death give life to the music. I would be very happy if you enjoy that as well as the film itself."
The work is a light novel written by Ukai and illustrated by Nekometal. The story is about a 17-year-old ghost who is a professional killer game player, and while living off the prize money he wins in killer games, he aims to win consecutive games. It has also been a hot topic as it was ranked first in the new work category of "This Light Novel is Amazing! 2024" (Takarajimasha) and won the Excellence Award in the "18th MF Bunko J Light Novel Newcomer Award". The comic adaptation is also gaining popularity.
The anime will be directed by Ueno and produced by Studio Deen, and will begin airing in January 2026.
