The sixth episode of the TBS Sunday Theatre drama " Caster " starring Hiroshi Abe (Sunday 9pm) will be broadcast on May 18th.
In the previous episode, Shindo (Abe) covered the cover-up of an assault incident at Akasaka Minami Police Station on the news program "Newsgate." He began by saying that he had glimpsed the deep darkness of society through the incident, explaining, "It is a structure in which power suppresses the truth and organizations suppress justice. It is a reality in which 'the right thing to do' is replaced with 'what is unforgivable.'"
When asked why such things go unchecked, Shindo said it's because organizational logic dominates individual beliefs. "Under power, expediency takes precedence over truth. If someone points out injustice, they're shunned for not being able to read the room, and if they speak out for justice, they're silenced with the excuse, 'Don't disrupt the organization.' Has this ever resonated with you?" he asked.
"At work, at school, somewhere in your daily life, you have swallowed an injustice. You have chosen to remain silent even though you felt that something was wrong. And that silence has contributed to further injustice. For the sake of our organization, our position, for the sake of what we must protect, we unconsciously put a lid on our conscience. And this is how justice is trampled on and eventually forgotten. But I want to ask: is it really appropriate to say 'it can't be helped'? Is it right to overlook it and say 'that's the way it is'? As long as silence continues, the structure of this society will never change. Will you accept this reality? Or will you continue to question it? It's up to you to think about it," she says...
Episode 6: "I want to transplant the lungs of my husband, who has been diagnosed as brain dead, into my daughter." Hana (Mei Nagano), who covered Mayumi Fujii's (Anne Mei Nagano) desperate appeal, reports on "Newsgate" that it is the current organ transplant system that is preventing the transplant.
The broadcast sparked a wave of support for the Fujiis, but a weekly magazine article quickly turned sympathy for Mayumi into criticism.
To find out the truth, Hana and Motohashi (Shunsuke Michieda) go to the "Himawari Net Medical Support Center" where Mayumi is based. It's the same organization that Shindo has been pursuing.
The drama is set in a television news program and is a socially conscious entertainment piece that pursues the truth buried in the darkness and punishes evil.
