CITY:KyoAni's first new anime in six years to start on July 6th

It has been announced that the TV anime "CITY THE ANIMATION", based on the manga "CITY" by Keiichi Arai, known for "Nichijou" and other works, will be broadcast on ABC TV, TOKYO MX and other stations from July 6th. It will be produced by Kyoto Animation, the same company that produced "Nichijou", and this will be the first time in about six years that the company has produced a new anime, excluding sequels.

The cast for the Adatara family was also announced. They will be Takehito Koyasu as the professor and father, Mayumi Asano as the mother, KENN as Tatsuta, Keiji Inomata as Ryota, Koko Hayashi as Kamome, Haruna Fukushima as Umi, and Yuuki Amano as Sora. Furui Riho will be in charge of the opening theme "Hello" and TOMOO will be in charge of the ending theme "LUCKY". The music will be provided by the instrumental band "Piranians".

Koyasu commented, "I am very honored to receive an offer from Director Ishidate, who helped me with ' Violet Evergarden'. But this next work is a comedy?! This person has made such serious and beautiful works, but this latest one is a complete change from this silly piece full of gags. But it is exceptionally funny! By the way, I mainly play the two roles of Dr. Adatara and Adatara's father, but I also play other roles here and there. It was an experience that reminded me of when I was a rookie and reminded me of my roots as a beginner. It's a wonderful and tasteful comedy, so be sure to check it out. You won't be disappointed!"

Asano said, "You suddenly think of someone and think, 'I wonder how they are...' and a trivial conversation makes your heart lighter. Don't you ever have times like that? How are you? I'm Asano Mayumi, who played Adatara's mother. Cooking meals is love. Giving people lunch boxes is love. I feel happy to have become one of the residents of this 'CITY' that is full of love. KENN said, "I will mainly be playing the role of Adatara Ryo Tatsuta, but I will also be playing many other roles! It's a very lively everyday story with gags that have plots that seem impossible to imagine, but there are also heartwarming moments, and it's a wonderful work that makes you want to keep watching the daily lives of the 'CITY' characters! I hope you enjoy spending time with them."

Inomata said, "I've been a fan of Arai-sensei's work since his previous work, 'Nichijou,' so I'm really happy to be able to take part in this production! The dubbing session is always so much fun, the tension of recording together...the tension of having to hold back laughter...the tension of wondering how to portray this comedy...it's a real test! "CITY" is a manga that was serialized in "Morning" (Kodansha) from 2016 to 2021. It depicts the lives of some slightly unusual people living in an ordinary "CITY", including penniless college student Nagumo Mitori, Nikura, and Izumi Wako.

The anime will be directed by Taichi Ishidate, known for "Beyond the Boundary" and "Violet Evergarden," and produced by Kyoto Animation, the studio behind the "Nichijou" TV anime. Mikako Komatsu will play the protagonist, Mitori Nagumo, Aki Toyosaki will play the protagonist's friend, Nikura, and Yui Ishikawa will play the mysterious character, Wako Izumi.
