Author Mariko Hayashi appeared on Tetsuko Kuroyanagi's long-running talk show "Tetsuko's Room" (TV Asahi) broadcast on February 28th. She talked about the changes in her lifestyle and attitude since turning 70 last April.
As for things people in their 70s shouldn't do, he says that eating while reading a weekly magazine is a blissful experience, but that he often spills things, so "I think that's not good." The second is stairs at train stations. He makes sure he can easily reach the banister in case he falls. The third is taking a bath at night when traveling. If he drinks and then returns to his room alone, he's afraid that something might happen. "I'm very careful. If I take a bath in the morning, I feel safe."
The good thing about being in her 70s is that she "has lost interest in men." Even if someone is kind to her, she takes it as an elderly caregiver and no longer feels conceited. In the past, if someone was kind to her, she would think they were interested in her, but now she doesn't feel that way at all. "It's just like, thank you for being so considerate to me."
Even when she's drinking with a man, people assume she's talking about work. It's not like she used to be worried, but now she says, "I feel much more at ease when I'm with a man."
