To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the broadcast of the popular anime "Space Battleship Yamato," a special exhibition called "Space Battleship Yamato Space Battleship Yamato Record Exhibition" will be held at Seibu Shibuya in Shibuya, Tokyo from March 15th to 31st. The special exhibition was planned and produced by Hideaki Anno, who said, "I wouldn't be who I am today if I hadn't encountered Space Battleship Yamato," and will display valuable materials from the archives of the nonprofit organization Anime Special Effects Archive Organization (ATAC), including original proposals, character and mechanic design drawings, and more. Original goods will also be on sale. Some of the valuable materials, which will be on public display for the first time, have been previewed.
From the launch of the anime project to the 296,000 light-year journey depicted in all 26 episodes of the TV series, numerous intermediate materials such as settings, original drawings, and art will be exhibited along the episodes. Passing through the entrance, you will be able to see the actual earliest, elusive proposal documents, as well as numerous image arts published therein that are unimaginable for the Yamato of today. Actual setting materials for the Yamato ship and numerous early character designs that were polished by Matsumoto Reiji will also be on display. Pilot films will also be screened.
The section following the story of the TV series will feature exhibits of character and mecha settings, storyboards, art, cels, etc. that correspond to each episode. There will also be large-format original drawings and special-sized background images of the interior of the Yamato, outer space, and Earth's underground cities. There will also be corners focusing on the cast, magazines, comics, music, and sound effects, a large model of the Yamato ship that shows its internal structure, and photo spots with the main characters.
Other merchandise unveiled included character and mecha acrylic stands, a badge lottery, T-shirts, a Yukikaze snow globe, and a "W Yamato" collaboration liquid glue.
