The main visual for the drama series "Serial Drama W 1972: Fireflies at the Beach" (WOWOW), starring actor Issei Takahashi, has been released. The striking visual features the main cast, including Takahashi's protagonist Maeda, alongside Aoki Munetaka, Kobayashi Kaoru, and others involved in the $1 million robbery case.
The film is based on the crime suspense novel "Hotaruhi at the Beach" (Futaba Bunko) by Izumi Sakagami, whose novel "Invisible" won the 23rd Oyabu Haruhiko Prize and was nominated for the 164th Naoki Prize. In 1972, as Okinawa was being converted back to mainland Japan and the yen was being exchanged for dollars, a cash transport vehicle collecting dollar bills was attacked and $1 million was stolen. Concerned that this could develop into a serious diplomatic issue if the Japanese or US governments were to learn of the incident, the Ryukyu Police formed a special investigation team led by Maeda Taichi (Takahashi) to solve the case in secret. With only 18 days until reversion, Maeda and his team worked hard to solve the case. The robbery was suspected to be the work of a local gang, but the US government's intentions lie behind it...
The main visual features Maeda, Yonaha (Aoki), and Tamaki (Kobayashi) of the Ryukyu Police Special Investigation Unit, along with US Army investigator Ikezawa (Shirota Yu), and Kabira (Sawamura Kazuki), a businessman who influences Okinawa, at the top.The design evokes the image of "Fireflies on the Beach," with Maeda's back as he stands on the shore, and around him, ``uchikabi,'' money from the afterlife used in ancestral memorial services in Okinawa, burning like fireflies.
"Serial Drama W 1972: Fireflies at the Beach" will be broadcast and streamed on WOWOW Prime and WOWOW On Demand every Sunday at 10:00 p.m. starting October 19th.
