The fifth episode of the drama series "The Great Chase: Metropolitan Police Department SSBC Violent Crimes Unit" (TV Asahi, Wednesdays at 9 PM) will air on August 6th. In the episode, it is revealed that Yaegashi Masao, the Chief of the Metropolitan Police Department's First Investigative Division, played by Kenichi Endo, has a twin brother, Masahiko (played by Endo in a dual role), who runs a sushi restaurant in Aomori. Ahead of the broadcast, Endo commented:
Despite being the head of the First Investigation Division, Yaegashi is unable to stand up to Nanami, a career bureaucrat at the National Police Agency played by Aiba Masaki, and always lets out a ridiculous "Hah!" His portrayal of the character, which even evokes the sadness of a middle manager, has become a hot topic, and Endo was pleased with the response, saying, "I've never played the role of a useless detective before, so I was a bit worried about whether he would be okay... but when I saw everyone's reaction, including my wife, they said, 'I think it's fun,' so I was glad (laughs)."
Regarding episode 5, he gave his stamp of approval, saying, "It was interesting from the moment I read the script." He then went on to say about the series, "It's a detective story, but it also has a comedy element to it, so it has two elements. The buddy-like relationship between Nao Omori and Aiba Masaki is interesting, and the part of Aoyagi Haruka, played by Matsushita Nao, who is half sharp and half a wreck because she's being dragged around by the Chief of the Division, is also interesting... I feel like we've created a new detective drama with many new elements still hidden away."
In episode 5, a twin brother who looks just like Yaegashi appears, causing a stir at the Metropolitan Police Department, and at the same time, an incident occurs that is believed to involve the twins. A decomposed body is discovered on the banks of the Tama River, and its identity is revealed to be that of Kurata Ichiro (Hidekazu Mashima), a member of the Ryugen-kai gang. During his lifetime, Kurata had reportedly told a hostess at a bar, "I've found a moneymaker. A rich pianist."
Using facial recognition technology, the SSBC Violent Crimes Division identifies the "pianist" from security camera footage near the murder scene, identifying him as a promising music college student, Hibiki Hamada (Tatsuomi Hamada). As the First Investigation Division considers Hibiki a prime suspect, it is discovered that the murdered Kurata had twin sons. It is then discovered that one of the twins is Hibiki, and the other is Junichi Inagi (played by Hamada in a dual role), a member of a semi-criminal group... and so the story unfolds.
