The new cast of the NHK Taiga drama "Toyotomi Brothers!" starring Taiga Nakano, which will be broadcast in 2026, was announced on the NHK Drama Official X (formerly Twitter) on February 4th, revealing that Emma Emma Miyazawa will play Tomo, the older sister of the Toyotomi brothers.
"Toyotomi Brothers!" is a success story of hope and dreams depicting the miracle of the Toyotomi brothers who accomplished the great feat of unifying the country with their strong bond, with Hidenaga, the younger brother of "the ruler of Japan," as the main character. The script is written by Hiroyuki Yatsu, who is known for "Naoki Hanzawa" and the TV drama series "Ochoyan."
Tomo, played by Miyazawa, is a strong-willed and reliable girl. She gave birth to and raised three boys, but her younger brother Hideyoshi, who was unable to find an heir, used them as political tools. Hidetsugu, the eldest son who later became Hideyoshi's successor, was suspected of treason and executed along with his wife and children. She is "a strong-willed older sister who is strict with her brothers."
Miyazawa said, "I had always wanted to be involved in another production by Yatsuka, so I was very happy when I heard about the role. Tomo apparently lived longer than Hidenaga and Hideyoshi, so I felt a sense of urgency knowing that this would be a role I would have to face over a long period of time."
Regarding Tomo, he revealed, "When I first heard about the role, I didn't know much about Tomo, who grew up alongside the famous Toyotomi brothers and survived the turbulent seas of the Sengoku period."
"While Tomo benefits from the Toyotomi brothers' spectacular success, she also experiences unimaginable darkness, but at the beginning of the story as a family member, she is an incredibly tough and strong older sister who inspires her family. I really felt her inner strength as a woman surviving a harsh environment, and the resilience she has from growing up with brothers. There are many comical exchanges between the realist Tomo and the rather free-spirited family in the beginning, but considering what this family will go through in the future, I want to cherish the daily aspects of the family relationship, which could be considered the origin," she said.
