It was revealed on January 20th that the NHK Taiga drama "Dear Radiance (Hikaru Kimi e)," starring actress Yuriko Yoshitaka, won the December 2024 Monthly Award at the Galaxy Awards, which recognizes programs, individuals, and organizations that have contributed to the advancement of broadcasting culture.
"Dear Radiance (Hikaru Kimi e)" is the 63rd taiga drama. Set in the aristocratic society of the mid-Heian period, the protagonist is Murasaki Shikibu (Mahiro), who later wrote "The Komyo ga Tsuji" in 2006, and depicts the glittering world of Heian aristocrats and the life of a woman who lived, wrote, and loved with all her heart.
The Galaxy Awards were established in 1963 by the Broadcast Critics Association in the hopes of improving the quality of Japanese broadcasting culture. The association commented, "It was a year in which we were able to enjoy the complex emotions of Murasaki Shikibu and Fujiwara no Michinaga in a colorful Heian picture scroll. There were few battle scenes and it was said that the storyline was difficult to follow, but Oishi Shizuka's portrayal of human relationships was superb. It featured authors whose stories we had only known from textbooks, and the exquisite casting left a strong impression on us along with the historical background. It was a historical drama worthy of special mention."
Other winners of the award included Drama 10 "Sora Wataru Kyoushitsu" (NHK), Friday Drama "Light of My Lion" (TBS), and Sunday Theatre "Diamonds Sleeping in the Sea" (TBS).
