The first episode of the drama series "Madoka26sai,kenshui Yattemasu!" (TBS, Tuesdays at 10pm) starring actress Kyoko Yoshine was broadcast on January 14th. On social media, many people commented that they "wanted to root for" the main character, medical intern Madoka Wakatsuki, played by Yoshine.
The drama is based on Mizutani Midori's manga "Madoka26sai,kenshui Yattemasu!", "I'm a flustered medical intern," and "I came to be a medical intern on a remote island" (KADOKAWA). The protagonist, medical intern Madoka Wakatsuki, is sarcastically told that "interns are customers" in a medical field that is changing due to work style reform, and although she is confused, she faces the challenges of veteran doctors. The drama depicts the intense two years in which she faces life as a doctor and a girl, encouraging each other with her fellow colleagues.
Madoka did not report to the supervising doctor, Kanno (Suzuki Nobuyuki), that the hospitalized patient, Akane Yukawa (Mayumi Tanaka), had complained of lower back pain. Akane had told her not to tell the doctor, but Madoka ended up having to undergo emergency surgery.
"If you had been one step slower, the aortic aneurysm would have ruptured, and it would have been life-threatening. You interns shouldn't make such decisions on your own! You're not a doctor yet. Intern doctors are customers. Think about what that means."
When the surgeon Nishiyama (Akahori Masaaki) pointed this out to Madoka, she cried alone, reflecting on her own words and actions.
The next day, Madoka apologizes to Akane after the operation is successful. Akane asks, "It's okay. The operation is over without any problems. Can you talk to me again?" Madoka immediately replies, "Of course. If you don't mind."
"That's good. It's fun talking to you, Madoka. Please become a good doctor. I promise, Dr. Madoka," said Akane with a smile, and Madoka replied, "Thank you," and made the promise with her fingers crossed.
