A screening with talk show for Program 3 of the " Space Battleship Yamato Space Battleship Yamato Anniversary Selection Screening," a selection screening to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the broadcast of the popular anime series, was held on January 10th at Shinjuku Piccadilly (Shinjuku Ward, Tokyo). Voice actress Asagami Yoko (Ichiryusai Shunsui) of the heroine Mori Yuki, and manga artist Murakawa Michio, who worked on the official comic adaptation of " Space Battleship Yamato 2199," appeared on stage, and director Anno Hideaki, known for the "Evangelion" series, acted as MC. In front of Asagami, who said "I look up to her," Director Anno spoke passionately about his love for Mori Yuki, saying, "I rarely get nervous, but I'm nervous now."
In response to Asagami saying, "I like the tsundere (Mori Yuki) at the beginning," Director Anno forcefully replied, "That's good, but the second half is good too. I totally approve!"
Asagami, who was a rookie when "Space Battleship Yamato" was aired, revealed, "I was an amateur, so I had no choice but to show my true colors." Director Anno praised her, saying, "That's right! Her acting was natural and great. Yuki has a distinctive way of laughing. The way she laughed when her photo was taken in episode 23 was really good. I can't imitate that. It's a strange kind of laugh."
When Asagami said, "Nishizaki-san (Producer Yoshinobu Nishizaki) said that 'Kimi' is good," Director Anno nodded vigorously and said, "I know, right? 'Kimi' is good." Furthermore, when Asagami called out, "Anno-kun!" Director Anno smiled and said, "Thank you!"
Director Anno spoke passionately, saying, "My favorite scene of Kodai is when he holds Mori Yuki in his arms to protect her after being hit by the Desler Cannon in the final episode. It may have been what he was feeling inside. I think what is great about Yamato is how it is depicted in such detail. Mecha is great, but the heart of Yamato is the drama."
It has also been announced that Director Anno will be creating a new animated film based on "Space Battleship Yamato," but on the day he did not speak about the new work, saying, "I was told that I was not allowed to talk about any details at all."
