The Sunday Theatre drama " Mikami Sensei " (TBS, Sundays 9pm) starring actor Tori Matsuzaka Tori will begin airing on January 19th. The drama will introduce the 29 unique students of class 2, year 3, of Rintoku Gakuen, where Mikami (Matsuzaka) is the homeroom teacher, in order of their attendance numbers. Here we will introduce Tominaga Aoi (played by Aju Makita), who is attendance number 22. A video introducing the students is also available on the drama's official SNS.
Tominaga is a bright, free-spirited girl with a straightforward personality who doesn't worry about small things. She is childhood friends with Kanzaki Takuto (Daiken Okudaira), and is somewhat worried about the reckless Kanzaki. She doesn't belong to any clubs and likes sweet things. In class, she is on the same page with everyone, and is the type who can't leave troubled students alone.
Makita, who plays the role, commented, "Even when watching Sunday Theater alone, you can feel like you're enjoying it with a lot of people. That's the image I have. I was just as excited to be able to participate as a regular this time as I was when I watched it as a viewer. I've never acted in a school drama or played such a lively role, so I've been watching various dramas such as the 'Dragon Zakura' series to help me prepare for the role. Tominaga Ao plays a role like a bridge that connects Mikami Sensei and the students. I think the witty conversations between the two characters and the changes in their relationship are one of the highlights. I want to work hard as a team to create a production that will have people 'thinking' about it together!"
"Mikami Sensei" is about Takashi Mikami (Matsuzaka), a bureaucrat in the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology who wants to change the Japanese education system. He is ordered to transfer to a private high school called Rintoku Gakuin. In reality, he was demoted, but Mikami himself takes to the podium and leads 18-year-old high school students living in the Reiwa era, standing up to authority... This is a "great reversal education revival story."
This completely original work will be written by Shimori Roba, who will be teaming up with Matsuzaka for the first time since the film "The Journalist," and will be writing the script for a prime-time drama series for the first time. Kazutaka Iida, who has been in charge of popular Sunday Theater dramas such as "Anti-Hero" (2024) and "VIVANT" (2023), will serve as producer.
