It has been revealed that the total number of copies of the popular volleyball manga "Haikyu!!" by Haruichi Furudate, including the digital version, has surpassed 70 million. The series concluded in July 2020 in "Weekly Shonen Jump" (Shueisha), but its popularity accelerated due to the huge success of the animated film "Haikyu!! the Movie: Decisive Battle at the Garbage Dump" released in February this year, and the total number of copies has exceeded 70 million. As of November 2020, when the final 45th volume of the manga was released, the total number of copies published was about 50 million, and since the conclusion, the number has increased by about 20 million, showing its undiminished popularity.
It was also announced that a fan appreciation event, "Haikyu!! FAN PARK," will be held at Makuhari Messe (Mihama-ku, Chiba City) on June 7th and 8th, 2025. The event will bring together all kinds of "Haikyu!!" content, not just the manga. The main visuals for the event, featuring original drawings by author Furudate of Hinata Shoyo and Kageyama Tobio, have been released. The visuals were announced at the "Jump Festa 2025" event currently being held at Makuhari Messe.
"Haikyu!!" was serialized in "Weekly Shonen Jump" from February 2012 to July 2020. The story follows Hinata Shoyo, who suffered a crushing defeat in his final official match in middle school, as he reunites with Kageyama Tobio, a member of the opposing team, at the Karasuno High School volleyball team, where they aim to reach the top together.
The first season of the TV anime aired from April to September 2014, the second from October 2015 to March 2016, the third from October to December 2016, and the first cour of the fourth season aired from January to April 2020 and the second cour from October to December 2020. The first part of the new film series, "Haikyu!! the Movie: Decisive Battle at the Garbage Dump," was released in February and was a huge hit, grossing over 20 billion yen worldwide.
